Sample Processor I

We are currently seeking a dynamic Sample Processor I to join our team in San Diego.

Innovator Profile

The Sample Processor’s primary responsibility is to provide front-line support in the procurement of record of loan (ROL) material and manage chain-of-custody of samples received.  This individual must support the Decipher internal and external customers in the routine functions to ensure client satisfaction and appropriate records and materials management are consistently maintained.  This individual must work with staff to employ a team approach.  Manages patient orders with or without samples and oversees special projects assigned by their supervisor.

What you are great at doing:

Responsible for order submission, procurement of tissue samples, communication with clients and sales, data entry, metric gathering and any/all support at the pre-analytical stage of Decipher laboratory testing.

Sample management: data entry of information into various LIS and ensuring sample processing is completed to meet turnaround time/deadlines

Ensuring that chain of custody is upheld and that samples are processed and returned in a timely manner

Performing QC of all related patient information, and record discrepancies and communicate errors

Managing chain-of-custody of all ROL material

Ensuring all work is performed in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations and participate in all regulatory inspections

Independently handling routine transactions, making decisions and resolving routine problems by working directly with sales reps, medical team, operations team and clients.

Identifying problems with specimen types, missing information and assigning the issue to the appropriate ancillary department or in some cases resolving them.

Serve as a primary subject matter expert for both the client and clinical department requirements in regards to; order and specimen submission acceptance/rejection criteria, the quantity that is needed for each test, and specimen handling and delivery

Correctly routing/process Invoices received from procurement facilities

Understanding of compliance regulations related to test ordering which may change on a daily basis

Communicating effectively and professionally in company LIS systems

Flexibility and willingness to adapt to change and pursuit of continuous improvement efforts and be part of process improvement group discussions

Ability and willingness to support the goals of the department with regard to staffing needs on weekends, holidays, on call and overtime.

Procurement

Handling all aspects of procuring material for testing

Communicating directly with procurement facilities

Documenting procurement requests, issues, updates and follow-up communication into LIS

Tracking procurement turn-around-times

Performing benefits eligibility review

Generating Test Not Performed reports

Coordinating business agreements with procurement facility

Accessioning

Accession new samples as part of the team's primary daily function. We expect that anywhere from 50% to 75% of the role will entail the routine accessioning of new samples that are received by the laboratory

Performs technical and non-technical procedures required to process and submit all specimens received for the day. Assigns specific computer generated identification numbers, checks for data entry accuracy and records all items processed

Ensuring that chain of custody is upheld between GDx and Referral Laboratory and that samples are accounted for during the time of specimen receipt and specimen send out

Performance task proficiency includes but is not limited to the following manual functions: sorting, racking, managing and handling pickup and delivery of specimens to the laboratory, specimen storage/archiving

What you need to be successful: 

Bachelor’s degree preferably

1 years’ experience laboratory or laboratory administration experience

The ability to navigate efficiently through, or have familiarity with, various laboratory information systems (LIS) and have proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, Access and PowerPoint)
